Play, Laughing and Learning with Children on the Autism Spectrum

This book is crammed with ideas to gain a child's attention and motivation and build on small achievements, with advice on how to redirect obsessions and rituals positively. The book also covers reading and making the most of television. The strategies will help toddlers as well as older children.

I personally have this book, it was one of the first ever books I bought on Autism and I very highly recommend it myself. It is crammed with brilliant tips and advise. I even used one of the tips myself with Taylor. It suggests replacing sand boxes with rice (and various other things) so I did, as Taylor used to do nothing but eat the sand or throw it at everyone and everywhere and it worked a treat. Once he learned the uncooked rice tasted horrible he gave up trying to eat it and started playing with it. I will warn you now though, anyone who takes that same advise on board and has wood flooring please BE CAREFUL as slipping on uncooked rice on wooden flooring can be like slipping on ice!! Been there and done that many times and even had a sprained ankle to prove it!!
